Championships just the beginning

A BRASS band has sounded a call for new members as it gears up for a busy season of events.

Maltby Miners’ Welfare Band attended the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships at the beginning of the month and are practising for a hectic few months ahead.

Musical director Terry Clifford said: “There’s no rest for the band as a busy concert season lays ahead with new programmes to rehearse for the many jobs already on the books.

“The events we get involved in include village fetes, church services, parades and playing in parks, at stately homes and castles.

“We also have our very successful Christmas concert at the Rotherham Civic Theatre.”

He added: “The band is always on the lookout for extra players so we can continue to create our style of music making.

“We would like to hear from anybody who might be interested in joining us. We welcome players old and new.

“If you were once a player and would like to start again, you will find us a friendly band that can provide you with an instrument, help and advice to get you playing.

“If you would like to learn a brass instrument, we also have experienced players who can give tuition. You can never be too old or too young to learn to play.”
