Children's play area and cars torched

ARSONISTS set a children’s climbing frame on fire as well as several cars over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The play equipment was in Clifton Park and fire crews were called to the scene this morning at 2.10am.

They used a hose reel to put the fire out and left the scene at 2.30am.

A Citroen Saxo was also found torched in a field on Sheffield Road, Todwick this morning at 2.15am.

A crew from Aston station left the scene at 3am.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said another car was found alight on Meadowcroft Close in Whiston at 2.10am on Saturday morning.

She said no make or model had been recorded, but Aston station was at the scene for 30 minutes.

Five minutes later a Vauxhall Astra was deliberately set on fire on Bearing Road, Blackburn.

A crew from Rotherham station was at the scene for 30 minutes.
