Wath Academy students fundraise to plant 100 trees for 100th anniversary

STUDENTS are asking fundraisers to “dig” deep — and help them plant 100 trees to mark a special milestone for their school.

Pupils at Wath Academy are leading a fundraising appeal to raise £500 to plant the trees and celebrate its 100th anniversary in September.

The Academy is aiming to get involved as part of the National Trust’s Plant a Tree Fund, desgined to create new habitats for wildlife, including the red squirrel, song thrush, and red kite.

Principal Liam Ransome said: “We all know how important looking after the environment is and we want to help to grow a positive future for our young people.

“We’re asking our supporters and families to donate to this special centenary fund to enable us to do this.

“From September onwards for the full academic year, our celebrations will look to the past and our long and rich history as well as looking to the future and our future generations.

“We have achieved so many great things in the past 100 years and we can’t wait to celebrate this major milestone and look forward to delivering even more in the next 100 years.”
