Truth behind health centre move

Sir, The article “Super Surgery Plan Shelved” did not spell out for your readers why the new Mexborough Health Centre has been cancelled.

The article refers to “public sector cost cutting” as though this was a local decision. It is part of the plan by the ConDem Coalition to make severe cuts and begin by cancelling any new government building projects.

This gives a lie to their claim to protect NHS spending and will halt the steady improvement in NHS services that Mexborough has seen in the past decade.

It will also be a further blow to jobs in the local building industry which has seen plans for new homes, schools and health centres, scrapped since the new Government came in.

Ever longer unemployment queues and firms losing money is no way to help Doncaster’s economy back on its feet or to pay off the Government’s own debts.
