Think about what we are losing

Sir I read your article l regarding the demise of both representative football teams in Rotherham.

Firstly I would like to thank all the volunteers who have worked hard and given their time freely to such a worthwhile sporting activity.

Secondly I would like to request Rotherham council have a good long think about what they are about to lose.

I don't see a week go by in the Advertiser without reading an article about either, how unhealthy we are around these parts or about youths smashing something or other up.

My son has been involved with both Rotherham boys teams and I have witnessed dozens of lads from all over the borough sacrifice their own time and money to come to training with the hope of being selected to wear a second or third hand kit, and give up their Saturdays to represent our town.

We have travelled to Leeds, Hull and Nottigham to name but a few often being followed by scouts, not only from our local sides, but from the likes of Blackburn Rovers,Oldham and Derby.

I realise spending council tax on football is not to everyones liking, but neither is xmas in July or an interesting drive round Bramley in order to get a paper.

But if we ever want to see a few local lads playing for us in the next play off final, or at least try to tackle the youth issues, I don't think that half a dozen coach trips and a bit of overtime for the coaching staff is unreasonable. We are adults and these are our kids and as my daughter would probably say " GO FIGURE "
