Teenagers' "once-in-a-lifetime" offer

A SPORTS trust is appealing to youngsters from across the community to join them on a once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are offering 15 to 17-year-olds throughout the borough the opportunity to develop new skills, make new friends and build confidence in a setting that promotes personal and professional development.

The National Citizen Service (NCS) programme is split into three phases with the first consisting of adrenalin fuelled fun in the form of rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and much more.

The participants then experience life as an independent university student, while attending interactive workshops and fun challenges.

For the final stint, youngsters come together in teams to create a project that will benefit their local community and take part in work that is recognised by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

Since the inception of NCS in 2011, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) has seen 1,107 young people take part in the programme, with over 21,940 hours-worth of volunteering being undertaken.

This equates to £83,162.60 based on the national minimum wage and RUCST are proud to announce that during this time, they have helped young people complete 70 social action projects, raising a staggering £22,624.36 for various charities and organisations.

This summer, RUCST were scheduled to depart with 330 young people.

However, after being awarded best English Football League Trust provider for 2015, the number of spaces they can offer has increased.

With an extra 60 spaces opening up, RUCST can now offer this exciting opportunity to more young people from every corner of the local community.
