Spend on care for the elderly

FURTHER to your front page article re care for the elderly. My mother was also in Oaktrees extra care for ten years from when it opened. She loved it there and the carers were so good they became friends and not just someone who came to help her two or thr

Unfortunately she became ill and spent over three weeks in Rotherham Hospital on ward A2. Again she had the best treatment and care anybody could wish for, as she did have on previous occasions at this hospital.

She then had to go into a care home, Ackroyd clinic on Moorgate ,where she had wonderful care and attention.

Unfortunately she died in February this year, but had reached the grand old age of 95.

If she was still alive and living at Oaktrees ,we would be very worried that the care she would receive, just like the lady you featured in your recent report, would be nowhere near as good as was previously given under the new system.

RMBC waffle now comes out, just as it did when she lived at Munsdale for the previous ten years, before, as you may guess, they closed it down.

Maybe if some top and middle tier management was stripped away, then tens of thousands of pounds could be utilised/spent on maintaining a decent level of care for our elderly.
