Socialist solution to housing problems

Sir- It has come to my attention the impossibility for young people and first time buyers to find affordable and decent homes to rent or to buy.

Private rent rates are extortionate and unaffordable by most students, part time workers or low waged indivudals.

The attempt to get on the property ladder for most young people is also in vain. The average first time buyer cant afford to compeate with the rising housing prices and stand still wages.

Council housing was introduced to supply uncrowded, well built homes on secure tenancies at below market rents to primarily working class people.

What has happened to this? With the right to buy legislation being introduced in 1979 and the change of management to housing associations the original concept of decent housing for working class people has been lost.

With many people being offered lower standards of accomidation or not being made offers at all beacause they do not fit criteria. A socialist solution would be to keep council housing publicly-owned and a massive building program of publicly owned housing to provide good quality homes with low rents.
