I WAS amazed on reading in last Sunday’s national newspapers that McCarthy & Stone, who advertise themselves as “The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder”, was advertising the sale of apartments at their new development in Wickersley, stating that it is located in “S. YORKS, Sheffield, Wickersley”.

Are they afraid of stating that their new development is in fact located in Rotherham and that it would affect their chances of selling these properties to a national market? Is this further proof that the name “Rotherham”, with all the negative publicity on child abuse, former MP, councillors and council officers, is now viewed with such disdain on a national scale?

Come on Rotherham, get some positive publicity for a change.
