Reject unwanted title

Surely it is time to get some new blood on to the council with fresh ideas.

Each week in the Advertiser we read letters from disgruntled residents, so here is your chance to do something about it.

Labour has had a monopoly in Rotherham for too long. The Conservative party is the main opposition on the council and as we need it to be a stronger group, this is your opportunity to vote for them and enable them to continue in their efforts to hold this council to account.

Cllr Parker's comments now seem to be correct, in that the Independent group agreed not to put up anyone to stand against the Labour candidate.

Does this mean that next year the Labour party will reciprocate and not put up a candidate against the Independents? We will have to wait and see.

I note that in Doncaster, Labour has 25 seats and the other parties 38; in Barnsley Labour has 32 seats and the other parties 30; in Sheffield, Labour has 36 seats and the other parties 48; but in Rotherham Labour has 49 seats and the other parties 14.

To the people of Rotherham, this is your chance to make sure that none of the four South Yorkshire councils have a Labour majority.

Help us to do away with our unwanted title as the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire once and for all.
