Pupils ‘on the move’

PUPILS learned all about life “on the move” when they received a surprise visit from a massive truck.

Foundation Stage children at Anston Hillcrest Primary School got up close to the lorry as part of their transport studies.

Foundation Stage Leader Jacki Habershon said: “As part of our On the Move learning journey, we have been learning about vehicles.

“The children learned about lots of different modes of transport and whether they travel on the ground, on water or in the air.

“We have talked about how vehicles move and that they come in lots of different shapes and sizes and even designed and made our own in our workshop area.

“During our class discussions we discovered that lots of children had travelled by car, in aeroplanes, on the bus and on a train.

“Nearly all had a bike or a scooter but only one had ever sat in a lorry.”

Thanks to one of the pupils’ parents, the school was able to arrange a visit from a Newell and Wright lorry and the chance for children to sit in the cab and blow the airhorn.

Mrs Habershon added: “The children all had a great time learning more about Lorries.

“This visit was an invaluable first-hand experience for our children.

“They loved getting to sit in the cab and learning about what it’s like to be a lorry driver.”
