LETTER: Thanks for 30 years of hospice shows

MAY I, through your column, give my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the people who have helped and supported myself and Terry over the years to raise money for the Rotherham Hospice.

On Wednesday, April 25, a charity show was held at the Rawmarsh Trades and Labour Club. The artistes appearing were Soulmates and Alba Rosa with compere Charlie Graves from the Advertiser.

It was a lovely night, I think that everyone enjoyed it. The money raised amounted to £781.38.

Now, sadly, after 30 years of having the shows, I’m calling it a day. I will not be doing any more. The reason is that, since Terry passed away three years ago, I’m finding it too upsetting to do them.

I would like to thank all the artistes, too many to mention, who have given their time to come and do the shows, many who also have jobs during the day have really put themselves out to turn out again at night.

I would also like to thank all the people who, again, year after year have donated raffle prizes, not forgetting Horner Brothers printers for their help over the years.

Since the hospice has been open, so many people have told Terry and myself what a wonderful place it is and how well cared for their loved ones have been. That, for us, made it all worthwhile.

I cannot forget my good friends Gill Venables, Dr Venables, Lorraine and Winnie, who on the day were busy making sandwiches for the shows. They helped me sell raffle tickets and donated the money from the sandwiches to the hospice.

Thank you, true friends.

Last of all, a massive thank you to Rotherham Trades Club, Albion Road Working Men’s Club and, for the last few years, Rawmarsh Trades and Labour Club. Most of the money has been raised in these clubs. They deserve to be supported.

Thanks also to the people who have come to the shows year after year and given their support.

I apologise if I have inadvertently forgotten to mention anyone.

Once again, my thanks to everyone.
