Letter: National sovereignty not an abstract concept

THERE must be many people like me for whom national sovereignty is not an abstract concept. Many people understand deep down in their blood and bones something that Cameron and others struggle to get their heads around.

Every nook and cranny of our life is impacted upon by our membership of the EU from housing to wages, from finding your child a place in primary school, to how long it takes to get an appointment with your GP.

When and if the time comes for a referendum, I am hoping there will be politicians with the grit and guts to speak for Britain, and not out of self-interest. I’m hoping there will be other voices who speak honestly without one eye on their next career move.

Anyone who loves this country should be free to argue their case, irrespective of if it suits the agenda of the fly-by-night leaders. There are many people who care about this issue too deeply to be silenced. If Cameron tries to rig the debate in favour of staying then he will be the most despised Prime Minister in history.
