Find a solution and save Rotherham's school football teams

Sir, It was with dismay and disappointment that I read in the Advertiser  that the the Rotherham school football teams are to fold up due to a lack of funds.

About 25 years ago when the teams were facing similar problems the then Rotherham Education Committee began making an annual grant to the teams in an effort to contiue giving schoolboys in Rotherham the opportunity to play representative football.

In a week when the performance of the national team in the World Cup demonstrates the pressing need to nuture local talent even more then this support from the Rotherham Council needs to continue.

Even with the increasing pressure on the finances of the Council the funds required by the School teams to continue their work is infintesimal in the context of the total budget of the authority.

Surely the Council can look at this again and find a solution At the same time Rotherham United might consider whether or not they have an interest and responsibilty in this matter as well.
