Chantry Brewery's Parkgate 200: The special ale that made it to Parliament

FROM Parkgate to parliament — Chantry Brewery is celebrating having a guest ale in the Palace of Westminster.

Former pubs minister John Healey MP arranged for one of the company’s beers to be installed in the Strangers’ Bar from Monday.

Chantry has produced Parkgate 200 to tie in with this year’s commemoration of 200 years since the place was established.

Wentworth & Dearne MP Mr Healey welcomed the team on their visit to London and said: “Chantry Brewery really has gone from strength to strength over the last decade and I know how much hard work goes into each and every beer they produce.

“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for visitors, guests and MPs to taste what Rotherham has to offer as well as celebrating 200 years of the Parkgate area with their Parkgate 200 beer which commemorates our industrial heritage in the borough.”

Chantry opened on Callum Court in November 2012 and now has four pubs as well as producing a wide range of beers.

Chief brewer Mick Warburton said: “This is a great chance for us to showcase our beers in Parliament and it was great to see so many people enjoying a pint of Parkgate 200.

“All our beers are lovingly made and a lot of time goes into balancing the flavours and perfecting all of our Chantry beers.

“Parkgate 200 has been specially brewed to commemorate the history of Parkgate and at Chantry we are proud of our history and remember our roots as we strive to share our real ale with the world.”

The anniversary drink is a 4.1 per cent pale and Chantry delivered seven casks — two of which had been supped before the team had even left parliament.

Mick thanked Mr Healey and his wife Jackie for their hospitality — and added: “It was a very proud day for us all at Chantry Brewery to see all the MPs enjoying a Parkgate pint!”
